SLIP 30

Winter 2025

WINTER 2025 - The Atlanta Bar Association Summer Law Internship Program for High School Students (SLIP) offers paid summer internships to Atlanta area high school students who are interested in a challenging internship experience in the legal profession. Founded in 1993, SLIP was designed to achieve three goals: (1) to provide a valuable and meaningful work experience; (2) to further the Interns’ understanding of the law and the importance of the Rule of Law; and (3) to promote mentor relationships with the Atlanta legal community. Current Juniors and Seniors (Classes of 2025 and 2025) are eligible to apply in 2025. Applications will be available on Friday, February 7, 2025, and the deadline to submit completed applications is Thursday, March 20, 2025. In-person interviews will be scheduled in April on a date TBD.
The 2025 Internship Program will run from May 28, 2025 to July 18, 2025. This is a rigorous, all-in program and not for everybody. Any student selected will need to fully commit to the entire eight weeks. You are 100% in, or you are not. We do not allow for conflicts for long- planned family vacations, sports commitments, camps etc. The Internship Program primarily partners with law firms and organizations in the Atlanta area. Ninety-five (95)% of our placements are inside interstate 285. Although we welcome applications from students who live outside the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, if selected, they will need to be prepared for an extremely lengthy commute.
Since its inception SLIP has made over 940 paid internships available to high school students from the Atlanta Metro area. In total, sixty-five (65) former Atlanta Bar Summer Law Interns have attended law school, including nineteen (19) former Interns currently in law school with six (6) of these first years.

Jarvarus Gresham Grit Award

SLIP created the Jarvarus Gresham Grit Award to recognize Interns who demonstrate exceptional grit, perseverance and commitment throughout the Atlanta Bar Association Summer Law Internship Program. The award honors Atlanta attorney and former SLIP internJarvarus Gresham. Jarvarus was a 2007 graduate of D.M. Therrell High School and was a two-time SLIP intern in 2005 and 2006. Jarvarus received his Bachelor’s from the University of Florida in 2011 and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law in 2019 with his first two years in law school being in GSU’s night program while he worked full-time.
